Movement for Actors with Renouned Movement Coach Sarah Perry
Sarah Perry is an actor and movement specialist from the U.K. She’s worked on many films as a movement coach, most recently Jupiter Ascending directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski and starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis and Sean Bean.
Sarah helps actors explore the creative potential that the body has to offer through practice and observation. Studying how the body moves under different circumstances helps to raise the awareness of the body which can then can be applied to character development, voice and finally, text. Sarah’s methods are inspired by leading acting and movement practitioners including Stanislavski, Laban, Bartenieff and many others.
Movement for Actors classes and workshops are usually explorative by nature, using ideas particularly inspired by Rudolph Laban, to help discover the subtleties in performance/characterisation and in particular exploring a character’s movement vocabulary and patterns.
It is useful to tune into our own movement patterns, before thinking about a particular character’s, bringing our subconscious behaviourisms to our consciousness. If we are unaware of our own movement patterns, what tends to happen is that we bring these subconscious patterns into most of the characters that we embody. Through exercises/group activity/observations and discussions, classes and workshops will be a fun and useful way for the actor to explore new ways of ‘seeing’ in terms of looking at characters and in particular their movements.
This is a TWO DAY workshop. Actors will bring a prepared monologue and learn how to make it come alive with movement based the on the reality of that character. Initially, actors will be introduced to the Laban method with big play that gets into finer and more subtle detail as the workshop progresses.
